Short Bio

Dr. Jan Alexandersson is a principal researcher and research fellow at the Intelligent User Interfaces Department and Head of the Competence Center for Ambient Assisted Living at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Saarbrücken, Germany. Since 2017, he is a founding CEO of ki elements, a start-up focusing on technology for diagnosis support and screening of neurodegenerative diseases based on advanced analyses of spoken language. Jan has been working at DFKI since 1993 on various topics from basic to innovatitive R&D with a focus on multimodal, multilingual and accessible human computer interaction. He received his Master of Science in Computer Science from Linköping University, Sweden and his PhD from the University of Saarland, Germany. His project experience is based on a wide variety of domestic and international projects where he fills the roles of principal researcher and coordinator, most notable projects include i2home, Metalogue (both EU) and ELEMENT (EIT Digital). In the last decade, he has focused on applying AI technology in innovation projects for people with special needs, such as “i2home - Smart Homes for Everyone”, “Mobia/mobisaar - public transportation for all”. He continues to do research in the medical domain, with a particular focus on early detection and prevention of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.
